Baseball Week Four Recap

After a victory against Ballard High School on Saturday, the Bulldogs finished a successful 4th week of the season.
Their first game on Monday was a 10-3 loss against Bishop Blanchet. It was competitive until the late innings when Blanchet had an offensive breakthrough and pulled away.
The Bulldogs then had an easy game against Franklin, which they won 17-5. Garfield’s offense was on fire as almost every player with an at-bat got a hit. The pitching duties were distributed between Zac Meyer, Aaron Herst, and Desmond Ostrom.
Then, Garfield played Ballard on back-to-back days. The Bulldogs won the first game on Friday 12-8, with Saul Johnson pitching five innings. Henry Smidt led the team with three hits, an RBI, and scored two runs. The second game on Saturday was a great comeback victory for Garfield. Going into the 6th and final inning, the Bulldogs were down 3-7. However, pitching errors from Ballard and an offensive rally from Garfield scored five runs and secured the win for the Bulldogs. This game was particularly special because it took place at T-Mobile Park, the Mariners’ home stadium.
The Bulldogs played well to win 3 out of 4 games this week. Next week, Garfield will face some tough competition including Eastside Catholic and O’Dea. Securing victories against those teams will be a challenge, but after their strong showing this week, it is possible.
